British Petroleum

Recently, British Petroleum revealed that it is shutting down the Alaska pipeline from the largest oil field in America which it owns. 15 out of 22 miles of pipeline have to be replaced because of a leak from corroded pipes that have not been maintained because they did not have the money to keep the maintenance up!

A huge oil leak has resulted in fines against them when the US government discovered the leaks and filed criminal charges.

Now, prices of gas are going to skyrocket!
The largest oil field in America owned and operated by British Petroleum!

How do you feel about this?

UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE

A movement is underway to provide health care for all Californians by www.HealthCareforAll.org and www.OneCareNow.org. They want to see SB 840 passed in the California legislature. Currently, it appears that the Democratic challenger Angelides is promising to sign the bill. While unlikely that he will sign if it passes, Gov. Swartzenegger has not signaled his intentions.

Under this bill, ALL people physically located in the state, including illegal immigrants will be eligible for health care. The argument is that people who wait to get medical treatment because they cannot afford it, end up costing more money because their conditions get more serious and they go to the emergency rooms.

This plan aims at prevention. It allows people to get medical assistance at affordable rates.

This is a great idea. What is questionable is:

1. When people hear of a universal health care system will it encourage more illegal immigration?

2. Will cancer and diabeties patients from all over the country/world come to California to seek medical treatment?

3. Can tariffs be placed on the imports of goods of countries with citizens using this program to recoup our tax dollars? Can international aid be cut to recoup the costs? Can other countries be billed for the health care received by their citizens?

A lot needs to be thought out. It is in principal and idea of merit.

The American Injustice System

Yesterday I found it totally amazing that a soldier was put in jail for six months for "scaring" and Iraqi prisoner with his dog and a young white woman had charges dropped against her after she had sex with one of her students, a 14 year old boy, in Florida, on multiple admitted occasions.

If it had been a man and worst yet a Black man, he would have been in prison so fast you would never have heard about it. Instead, I had to listen to this woman (Le Favre) say how sorry she was and how she had learned a lesson.

More evidence of the American injustice system.
